Vandaag, vrijdag 20 mei, heeft de Duitse politie verschillende servers
van de Duitse Piratenpartij geconfisceerd voor een politieonderzoek
vanuit Frankrijk.

De Duitse Piratenpartij heeft verklaard dat ze de Franse autoriteiten,
binnen hun wettelijke verplichtingen, steunen in hun onderzoek.
Toegang tot de technische infrastructuur is al verleend voor zover
nodig voor het onderzoek. De gerichte zoektocht voor specifieke data
zal hierdoor gauw gedaan moeten zijn.

Tot nu toe verwacht hun Bestuur geen strafbare feiten door de Duitse
Piratenpartij: slechts één publieke service op een virtuele server zou
getroffen zijn. De resultaten van het onderzoek worden “met
nieuwschierigheid verwacht” door onze Duitse tegenhangers, en volgens
de fundamenten van de Piratenbeweging zullen ze alle details in alle
transparantie en details [sic] zo snel mogelijk publiceren als wanneer
ze bevestigde informatie hebben.

Het Bestuur heeft geen informatie die duidt op noodzaak om alle Duitse
piratenpartijservers offline te halen, aangezien maar één enkele
publieke service op een virtuele server van de partij door het
onderzoek getroffen is. Het afsnijden van alle servers is een grote
belemmering binnen de communicatie-infrastructuur van de zesde
politieke partij in grootte van Duitsland.

Aangezien binnen twee dagen in Bremen verkiezingen plaatsvinden heeft
de buitenproportionele afsnijding voor politieonderzoeksdoeleinden al
een enorme mediaschade aan de Duitse Piratenpartij opgeleverd. Onze
tegenhangers hebben het sterk veroordeeld, en vervolgens excuses
aangeboden voor het ongemak.

De Piratenpartij steunt de Duitse Piratenpartij en veroordeeld
deze poging buiten proporties aan de vrijheid van meningsuiting en
communicatie van een politieke partij op de vooravond van een
verkiezing.

We zullen het onderzoeksproces met aandacht volgen, en met name
controleren of het uitgegeven huiszoekingsbevel uitgegeven is in
verhouding met waar de onderzoekers zich van bewust waren, en of de in
beslag genomen data werkelijk met het onderzoek in verband staat.

This Friday, May the 20th, in the morning, the German police confiscated multiple servers from the German Pirate Party, for a police investigation issued from France.

The German Pirate Party has stated that they will support, within their legal obligations, the French authorities in their investigation. Access to the technical infrastructure has already been provided as far as necessary for the investigation. Therefore, the tergeted search for specific datasets should quickly be established.

Until now, their Board does not expect deliquency on behalf of the German Pirate Party : only one single public service on a virtual server of the party would be affected. The results of this investigation are « expected with curiosity » by our German counterparts, and accordingly to the foundations of the Pirate movement, they will publish all the details in all transparency and details as soon as they have affirmed information.

The Board does not have information that indicate the necessity to take all servers of the German Pirate Party off-line, only one single public service on a virtual server of the party being affected by the investigation. The cut-off of all servers is a huge intrusion inside of the communications infrastructure of the sixth largest political party in Germany.

As state elections will take place in less than two days in Bremen, this disproportionate cut-off for the needs of a police investigation has already caused huge media damage to the German Pirate Party. Our counterparts have strongly condemned it, before apologizing for the inconvenience.

The French Pirate Party supports the German Pirate Party and condemns this disproportionate attempt to freedoms of speach and communication of a political party on the eve of an election.

We will follow with attention the progess of the investigation, and will check in particular that the issued search warrant was delivered in proportionnaly with what the investigators were aware of, and that data seized by the authorities were truly linked to the investigation needs.
